Mr Selfridge

ITV's current costume drama

My Sundays at the moment are not complete without the weekly show giving an insight into the historic founding of the UK's second largest shop, Selfridges. Harry Gordon Selfridge is the charming, but reckless, businessman behind the venture in 1909. Revolutionising the shopping experience which had previously been a private, and mundane activity, making it the thrilling leisure pursuit we recognise today. Considered 'a genius from 9am-5pm, and a fool after hours' by colleagues, Harry Selfridge is entangled in as much seduction in his private life as within his store.

Following other protagonists such as Agnes, a struggling shop floor worker, and Harry's extremely neglected wife Rose, the plot thickens every week and I'm hooked. Luckily there's another 5 episodes to be aired. It has me intrigued as to what the fuss is all about with fellow ITV costume drama Downton Abbey. The outfits and interiors are mesmerising, not to mention the notion of an actual traditional gentlemen, perfect!
